Data portability — your data, your QR

A digital product passport is measured in years, not months — the QR code sits on the physical product, in many categories for 10+ years. So the key question is not the feature list, but: does your data stay yours, and what happens to the QR if you want to switch? Veridyn answers this on three levels.

The problem — lock-in

In most systems the QR points to the provider’s domain (e.g. someprovider.com/01/…). It is printed on the product and stays there for years. If the provider disappears, raises prices, or you simply want to switch, the printed QR can become a dead link — you cannot move it elsewhere.

How Veridyn solves it

  Your passports use the GS1 Digital Link and JSON-LD standards — your data can be exported at any time, in machine-readable form, with no export lock-in. The GTIN is yours (licensed from GS1), not ours.

• 2Your own domaincoming soon

  The QR can encode your own domain (dpp.yourbrand.com/01/…) instead of veridyn.eu. To switch, you just repoint DNS to the new provider — the already-printed QR keeps working, because it never contained veridyn.eu. (Settings → Your own domain.)

• 3Continuity guaranteelive now

  This also covers URLs issued on veridyn.eu: if the Service is permanently discontinued, at least 90 days’ prior notice, a full data export, and the public URLs remain accessible for at least 12 months or are redirected to a new resolver you designate — so the QR does not die. (Section 13 of the Terms.)

What this means for you

You can take your data at any time, your QR codes do not break, and you are not chained to us. That is the difference between a serious DPP provider and a hobby tool — and it is exactly what you should expect from any DPP provider.
